EPISCOPAL VACANCY.

MELBOURNE ARCHBISHOPRIC [from our own correspondent.] SYDNEY, April 18. Although little is being said about it, tho Anglican Church is active in connection with the election of a successor to tho late Archbishop Lees, of Melbourne. In its choice, the Archbishopric Election Board will have before it the whole field of the Anglican communion, in Australia and throughout the Empire. The members of tho board are under a solemn bond of silence in connection with the election. One name prominently mentioned for the high ecclesiastical post is that of Bishop Long, of Newcastle, one of tho most distinguished of Australia's churchmen, but whether ho would meet with the unanimous support of the Anglican communion in Victoria is another matter.

Bishop Long combines with outstanding church statesmanship a striking personality and platform presenco and a courage of convictions not easily shaken. The general belief, however, is that the Church will go to England for the new archbishop.
