WORK OF ACCLIMATISATION. PAEROA SOCIETY'S DISTRICT. [ISY TELEGtUFH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 PAEROA, Thursday., At the annual meeting of the Faeroa Acclimatisation Society the president, Mr. D. Leach, reported that there had been good sport during the year, although ducks had' not been as plentiful "as in past seasons. ' He regretted that the Auckland Society was unsuccessful in its efforts to secure an open season for pukeko, as these birds were increasing in numbers. Trout fry numbering 25,000 were received in August, 5000 being liberated in the Komata Stream and 20,000 in the Waitawheta River. Fishing in the district had been very fair, and trout were increasing in numbers, ' particularly in tho Waitawheta River. Owing to the Railway Department's decision to charge freight, on all fry, all allocations of fry would be reduced for the coming year. Tho following officers -were elected:— Patron, Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P.; president, Mr, J, Hamilton; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. Mclvee, A. McLarn, A. Robinson, C. H. Stembridge, and O. H. Taylor; secretary, Mr. D. Leach; auditor, Mr. A. North; committed, Messrs. F. Dare, J. Dickson, K. D. Wards, H. C. Lewer, C. Mead, C. C. Millar, 8. J. Nichols and K. C. Williams. It was decided to declare sanctuaries at Karangahake.
