NORTH SHORE CLUB.
TRIAL FOURS COMPLETED
Dining the week-'. j nd tho North Shoro Rowing Club completed trial fours for trophies donuted py Mr. R. A. Spin ley. The course was frotn the cable stcumer Ins to the boathouse, and with tho southwest wind rough water was experienced, especially near tho wharf. Four crows competed and a goo<] standard of rowing was attained. Mr. S. Butland was judge and starting was by mutual consent. The first heat crews were:—F. Norris. S. Olliver, A. Lawrence C. Eagles; D. Davies, S. Gardiner, D. Carlyle, J. Burfoot. The crews jumped away to n pciod start but Norris quickly gained the lend. At tho wnurf Norris was over a length out and steadily increased the advantage on the long run to the lino to win comfortably.
The second heat crews wero:—A. Cotes. S. Challinor, D. Walsh. D. Stokes: It. Jackson, F. Eaton, J. Stead. W. Seagar. From a pood start the crews raced on almost, even terms until passing tho Devonport Wharf. Cotes then forged ahead and withstood a, challenge by Jackson in the 'dosing s'ages to win by cno and a-half lengths.
Tho crews of F. Norris and A. Cotes met ir. the final. Norris' crew jumped to the front from tho start aud with a sharp stroko gained a. comfortable lead. Just below Vonlnor Cotes issued a. challenge, but Norris' crow responded and went on to win by three lengths. AUCKLAND CLUB. The Auckland Rowing Club was unable on Saturday afternoon to row the somiflnol and final of tho pair-oar trials for trophies presented by Messrs. Walker and Hall. The laces will bo decided during the ensuing weolc. Tho crews are:—ll. Duck, A. Jackson; V. E. Thorburn, S. Scott. The winners will meet J. Bygate and T. Wylie. W A ITEM ATA CLUB. The handicap pair-oar trials of tho Waitema'.a Rowing Club for trophies donated by Messrs. Foarn Brothers, have been delayed, and tho races now completed are:— Pierce, 1). Gladding, 235, defeated F. Simmonds, W. Jones, 03s. by five lengths; S. Shorson, Iloring, 235, defeated J. Howard, P. Usher. 235, by five lengths: P. Piatt. C. C. Cairns, 15s. defeated B. Smith, O. McGehau, 3s, by three feet; D. Shoro, G. Barker, scr, defeated .T, Lawrence. D. Young, ISs. easily; S. Sherson, Horing, C'ts. defeated Pierce, D. Gladding, 235, easily. The next race will be between D. Shore, G. Barker, scr, and O. Piatt. C. C. Cairns. 15b./The winners will meet R. Sherson and Hortng in tho final, probably this week. The remaining trials to bo rowed by tho Waitemata Boating Club aro the double scullh for the cun and miniatures donated by Mr. D. M. Foreman. HAMILTON TRIAL FOURS, [nv telegraph.—own correspondent.! HAMILTON, Sunday. A series of trial fours was held by the Hamilton, Rowing Club yesterday afternoon. The leading crew, Sandos, I'enel. Currow and St George, won the cups donated for tho event by Mr. F. Jones. In tho evening a smoko concert, was held to celebrate fjio success of the senior four at the New Zealand championships. Mr. T. R Blackman. a supporter of tho club, who is leaving for the Malay States, was presented with a leather suitcase.
