JHE AUCKLAND CLUB.

PLAY IN CAPTAIN'S TOURNEY. The first round of tho captain's tourney was played by members of the Auckland Golf Club at Middlemore on Saturday. Tho courso was in excellent condition. Soveral matches ended all square, and had to be replayed. Of tho 80 entrants, 82 completed their games.

Members wero the guests of the president, Mr. W. J. A. Thomson, and captain Mr. R. M. Rogerson, for the afternoon. The links wero in excellent condition, and many members took advantage of playing in the mixed bogey foursome. The best score was returned by F. Prico and Mrs. Banister, who finished all square. S. The season on tho Papakura Golf Club's links was officially opened yesterday afternoon. Tlio weather was fine, and there was a lnrge gathering! of golfers, including visitors from tho Otnhuhu, Everslie. Pnkekohc and Wainku clubs. Mr. E. D. McLennan, president, of tho Papakura Club, declared tho links open for play. Ho stated that the membership of tho club had been further strengthened this year by the enrolment of 17 new members. Mr. F. P. Hockly, who was present as a visitor, also spoke. Tho captain of tho Indies' division, Mrs. W. 11. Walters, drove tho first ball. Mixed foursomes were played over nine holes.
