.AH candidates at the general election will be asked to support a petition in favour of legislation abolishing stag hunting, as being a cruel sport. The 15.000 signatories include the writers, Mr. Bernard Shaw, Mr. Arnold Bennett, Mr. John Galsworthy, Mr. Alfred Noyes, Miss Edith Sitwell and Miss Rebecca West, and also Miss Maude Hoyden, tho Bishop of Birmingham, Dr. E. W. Barnes, the Bishop of liipon, Dr. E. A. Burroughs, General Higgins, of the Salvation Army, the Chief Rabbi, Dr. J. H. Hertz.
The members of the Labour and Liberal Parties arc practically unanimously supporting the petition. In the meantime the members of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have voted by 5125 votes to 1142 in favour of a campaign against stag-hunting. It is expected that this decision will lead to resignations, as the society has many stag-hunters among its members
