SERGEANT-MAJOR'S PLEA.
FINE OF TWO POUNDS.
James Knight of Milborne Street, Andrew, Dorset who won the V.C. in tho Boer War,-was charged at Weymouth recent,; with using bad language. It was stated that, when spoken to by a police inspector, Knight declared that he could not possibly use bad language, becaus". he had been a serceantmajor.
The inspcctoi replied: "If you have been a sergeant-major and cannot use had language, you are tho only man in the British Army, who can make such a claim."
Knight, who was given a good character bv the rector of his parish, was fined i}2.
