INCOME TAX BREACHES.
OFFENCES BY ACCOUNTANT.
NO RETURNS FOR FOUR YEARS. PENALTY OF TWENTY POUNDS. Four charges of failing to furnish in-come-tax returns in respect of the years 1924, 1925, 1926 -and 1927 were admitted by Arthur V. Jones, accountant. Epsom, in the Police Court yesterday. Prosecuting on behalf of the Income Tax Commissioner Mr. Hubble said defendant was accustomed to figures. He would not have to pay the total tax due on his income received during tho four years. Counsel for defendant said the breach was due to misconception. Defendant had had no wilful intention of evading his obligations. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposed a fine of £5 on each of the four charges. He said he could not make tho fine lighter, as it would only tend to encourage others to avoid supplying details of their incomes.
