CAR OUT OF CONTROL.

FAILURE OF STEERING GEAR. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHAXGAREI. Friday. When driving a car on the Mokau Hill yesterday Mr. P. Webb, son of the chairman of the Whangarei County Council, had a narrow escape from serious injury. The road is a very tortuous one, with a steep bank on one side and a cliff on the other. The steering rod of i:he car fell out and the car, out of control, crashed into the bank, where it cams to rest with the engine still running. The front part of the car was severely wrenched. Had the vehicle swerved in the other direction the consequence* would have bsen perious.
