BIRKENHEAD DRAINAGE.

Sir, —As a Birkenhead ratepayer, I hope that the drainage proposals will bo dropped, and that no more of the ratepayers' good money will be squandered on plans and inquiries. Tho plain fact is that with the present access the Birkenhead borough cannot afford it. Lovely as the district is, tho empty houses show (ho lack of a bridge. Put iu drainage and double tho rates, and we .shall find drainage with nothing to drain and nobody to drain for. Dr. Chesson says that we must have drainage, Very well, if the Government insists on drainage, let them also insist on a bridge which will make the scheme feasible. J- Littlejohn.
