CHARGE OF BYRD'S DOGS.
MR. INNES TAYLOR IN CITY. Mr. A. Innes Taylor, who i§ associated with the Byrd Antarctic expedition as dog-team driver and aviation pilot, is in Auckland and is staying at the Hotel Csrgen. Mr. Taylor had charge of the 15 Alaskan sledge dogs, which arrived at Auckland by the Niagara on January 28, and went South by the Eleanor Boiling on the recent trip, when the vessel was turned back by tempestuous weather. Mr. Taylor stated yesterday that the dogs were now in quarantine on Quail Island in Lvttelton Harbour, and were likely to remain there until December. Efforts had been made to transfer them to Mount Cook, but official sanction had not yet been obtained. Mr. Taylor, who is on holiday in Auckland, expects ta return to Quail Island early this week.
