ANOTHER WIN FOR BRIDSON

NEW RECORD TO MISS MILLER.

The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Championship Carnival was concluded at tho To Aro Baths yesterday. Fino weather prevailed and there was a good attendance of tho public. One new record was established. This was in the 440 yds. ladies' championship, which was won by Miss K. Miller (Wellington) in 6m. 6 2-55., or 1 3-ss. better than tho record by Miss G. Shand (Canterbury). Miss Miller swam a great race. After 200 yds. she drew away from Miss D. Grant (Auckland) and won by a big margin.

Another splendid performance was that of W. Cameron (Wellington), who won the 50yds. invitation scratch raco in 23 3-ss. This beats by one-fifth of a second tho best recorded timo in Now Zealand or Australia. Tho third outstanding swim was when Miss P. Robertson (Auckland) in the 100 yds. ladies' handicap covered the distance in 65 3-ss, equalling tho record of Miss E. Stockley (Auckland) for the 100 yds. ladies' championship.

An Exciting Finish. A close contest was witnessed between A. Stokes (Canterbury) and G. Bridson (Auckland) in tiio 440 yds. men's championship. D. P. Lindsay (Auckland) did not. defend his title. Bridson and Stokes swam level the whole way, and in an exciting finish Bridson won by a narrow mangin. Bridson's time of sm. 24 4-ss. was only two-fifths of a second outside the record for the distance. There were a number of withdrawals on the part of, competitors in some of the events, leaving depleted fields. In the 100 yds. intermediate boys' breaststroke championship the one competitor took the title with a solo swim. Miss L. Copplestone (Ashburton) won the 220 yds. ladies' breaststroke championship by 20yds. from the only other competitor. She also secured the ladies' diving event, depriving Miss L. llood (Hawke's Bay) of her title. R. G. Calder (Otago) retained his title as men's diving champion.

Points lor the Shield. The Yaldhurst Shield was won by Auckland, with Wellington runners-up, while the War Memorial Shield was won also by Auckland. The points are as follows:—Yaldhurst Shield (seniors): Auckland, 44; Wellington, 37; Canterbury, 24; Ashburton, 11; Otago, 10; Wanganui, 9; Hawke's Bay, 3. War Memorial Shield: Auckland, 8; Otago, 3; Canterbury, 2; South Canterbury, 1. The following are the results of the events:—
