THE TARANAKI MEETING.

FIRST DAY'S EVENTS. Tho Taranaki Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting opens to-day. The following is a list •of the acceptances for tho various events: WAITARA HURDLES ;1J miles and 100 yds.

PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Wednesday.

Some heavy showers have fallen here during the last 24 hours, but little, damaco has been done to the racing track, rather the reverse, and the going should be really excellent for the Taranaki Meeting's .opening day to-morrow unless a great deal more raiu falls. The weather does not look really settled. Proceedings will open with the Waitara Hurdles. Royal Acre, 'with S. Henderson up, is assured of favouritism, with Vivo next in demand.

On form. Royal Finance appears to stand out in the Juvenile Handicap, but Callapat should run well. Lady Quex, who sprinted brilliantly this morning, should share favouritism with Llanoro in tho Flying Handicop. Llanorc will bo ridden by H. Goldfinch. If a surprise is sprung High Disdain mav be the medium.

The class is poor in the Maiden race, and on form Fortalice and Jokcfomi mav be prominent.

It is difficult to see Hynanr.a anvthina but a rood favourite for the Taranaki Cup after his Hawera display. Yoma arain has to bo considered. Onward Tcad3 \ve3l placed in the Oknto Hack Handicap. Gasnapper, who was unlucky at. Hawera. may be prominent. The Mimi High-weight Handicap is a very open race. Gold Cure and Manly, who were both unlucky at Hawera. mar run well.

Betting should be divided between Gold Dawn, Havering and Cool Mint in the concluding event, with a preference for the first two. i

LIMERICK'S PROGRAMME.

• , BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRIS'i'CHURCH. Wednesday.

| Tho programme -mapped out for Limerick on his approaching trip to Australia will be similar to that of last autumn. Ho will leave Wellington on March 1, and on arrival in Sydney will have a spell of more than a week before ho tackles the Rawson Stakes, nine furlongs, at Roaehill. This will bo followed a week later by the Chipping Norton Stakes, one mile and a-quarter, at Warwick Farm. He won both races last year. Then will come the Australian Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting. On the first day ho will contest tho Autumn Stakes, one milo and a-balf. The third doy will provide an alternative, there being the All Aged Stakes, one mile, and tho Cumberland Stakes, one milo and three-quarters. Last year Limerick won tho All Aged Stakes, and if the eamo programme is followed the race will bo tho star event of the trip. Tho A.J.C. Plate, two miles and aquarfer. figures on tho last day, but Limerick's programme at that stage of the trip will depend on circumstances. Beau Gcste is getting through plenty of useful work, and will be a much improved horso in the putumn. His Dunedin Cup chance cannot be regarded lightly, as ho has shown that ho can stay. The four-yeor-old Agrion is training on well. Ho is very sedate, and though lie has not been set any strenuous tasks ho is gradually reaching good racing condition. Thorndalo continues to gel through useful work. He appears to be quite sound again and should race well at sorno of the autumn meetings.
