CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
Sir, —In a letter referring -to a case in' which a dog in Otago was dragged behind a motor-cycle, and died as a result of' such treatment, it was suggested that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals should take action in the matter. My society is fully aw are that muehll cruelty occurs—mostly through ignor- ' ance and thoughtlessness, occasionally through innate brutality—and is therefore working to educate and enlighten th.o public in order to reduce this cruelty to ~ a minimum. In the meantime matters of this kind will be dealt w'th at theS forthcoming conference of all the ties for the Prevention of Cruelty to.. Animals in the Dominion, to bo held in Wanganui at the cn<T of this month when steps will be taken to urge the •{ Government to bring in such legislation as will provide for adequate punishment being meted out to such offenders. E. YoUNGHnSBAND, Secretary.
