MAN'S SERIES OF FRAUDS.
ACCUSED ADMITS GUILT.

Charges of obtaining money and goods, to the value of £sl 6s, from Hamilton tradespeople by means of .three valueless cheques were admitted by George Thomas Nelso, aged 28, in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day. Evidence was given that on' December 7 accused obtained possession of a' cheque book. Using a fictitious name ho bought a ring from Edwin Dold, giving in exchange a valueless cheque for £35. The accused produced a bundle of bank notes, but said ho had not sufficient money to pay for the ring. He purchased ai hat from A. C. Dimmock, and changed a chequo for £4 10s, and bought a tyre from the Fanners' Auctioneering Company, Limited, with a chequo for £ll 16s. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said accused had already been sentenced for several offences at Wanganui, and was undergoing a term of imprisonment at Auckland. The magistrate remarked that it was surprising how willingly business men accepted cheques from strangers. Hero was a man who exhibited a handful of notes, yet ono business man preferred to accept a cheque from him.
