ROAD TO THE NORTH.

WORK OF RECONSTRUCTION

DETOURS RECOMMENDED

Owing to urgent representations from tho engineers in charge of the reconstruction of the No. 1 main highway between Auckland and Maungaturoto, tho Auckland Automobile Association is recommending traffic to divert from the road between Puhoi and Warkworth, Warkworth and Wcllsford, and Wcllsford and Kaiwaka.

Several hundred men have been working on tho route for some mouths, and now that portions of tho formation have been completed the laying of the first course of metal will commence to-morrow. Tho work is being expedited with a view to completion before the winter. Interference with the gangs- by heavy motor traffic would delay progress, and tho ultimate benefit will be to motorists if the recommendations of the automobile association are followed.

Signs marked " Recommended Route" are to be placed by tho association. Travelling north from Auckland, cars should pass through Henderson and then take the route via Swanson and Waitakere to Kumeu and Helensville. The West Coast road is then followed through Port Albert to Wellsford, where the railway lino is crossed to junction with the East Coast road after a run of three miles. This continues through Mangawai, and cars for Dargaville should keep through Kaiwaka to join the main Auckland-Dargaville route. Traffic bound for Wluingarei will turn off just past Mangawai and continue through Waipu.
