ST. HELENS HOSPITAL.
ACCOMMODATION QUESTION.
When (he need of more accommodation at St, Helens Hospital was pointed out to (lie Minister of Health, tho Hon. A. J. Stallwor(hy, by an Auckland deputation in December, the Minister, in. promising to investigate tho position, said tho Health Department hold tho St. Helens hospitals were established for tho training of. nurses in midwifery, and tho responsibility of increasing the accommodation as required was on tho hospital boards.
Questioned yesterday, Mr. Stallworthy said ho was at present ascertaining tho position throughout New Zealand. Auckland seemed to be peculiarly situated, for in other centres hospital boards had undertaken the function of establishing maternity homes. Tho problem of overcrowding in tho St. Helens hospitals did not seem to have arisen in other places. Until his inquiries are completed the Minister has no statement to make with reference to meeting the Auckland problem.;
