EAST COAST RAILWAY.

INCREASES IN THE TRAFFIC.

THE CARRIAGE OF SHEEP.

Increases in passenger and slock traffic on the East Coast line have compelled the Railway Department to alter time-tables and arrange special Sunday stock trains. Commencing from next Monday the 7.40 morning train from Frankton to Thames is to leave at 7.10, and it will bo diverted at Paeroa to Tauranga, where it will arrive at one o'clock. Arrangements have been made for passengers for Thames to connect at Paeroa with another train which will take them to their destination.

Waiiii is to be made the terminus of another train which now runs to Thames. This is the service which connects at Frank<s>n with the night expresses from Auckland. The alteration, which will come into effect next Sunday, will allow passengers to reach Waihi the same evening and to go to the East Coast the following morning. The railway is now carrying the large mobs oi' sheep that in past years were a feature of the late summer on the> roads from Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay to the Waikato. The sheep are now brought to the railhead at Taneatua and from there sent to destinations in various parts of South Auckland. The time thus saved amounts, in some cases, to weeks and the sheep arrive in better condition. The department has on its books orders calling for the transportation of 22,000 head of sheep within the next v ?ew days.
