PICTURES SECRETLY SOLD.

INDIGNATION IN GERMANY

United Service. LONDON. Feb. 3. Tho Sunday Times reveals tlio sensational sale by the cx-Kaiser of some masterpieces from the Ilohenzollei n ait collections at Potsdam, involving a sum of at least £500,000. Tho deepest mystery surrounds tho transaction. Prominent Germans bitterly resent the loss 'of national, if not personal, possessions, and deplore the clandestine despatch of the pictures via Switzerland, which deprived German collcctois of the option of purchasing them. The ridiculous prices realised for some of tho pictures have also incensed Germans. One painting by the old Dutch master, Mcyndert Ilobbema, was sold for only £SO. Dr. Von Bode, curator of tho Kaiser Friederich Museum, made a formal protest to the ex-Kaiser at Doom. In reply Wilbclm wrote: " I will give Germany a chance to buy next time."
