A German steamer, tlio Dcistcr (1760 Ions), crashed on to tho rocks at Cape Lcixoes, off Oporto, and mountainous seas swept 21 members of her crew from tho bridgo ono by one. All were drowned before the eyes of helpless watchers.

Four men were still clinging to tho rigging when tho crew of a- lifeboat made a futile attempt to approach them. Then the Dcistcr disappeared.
