SYDNEY WOOL SALES.

PRICES WELL MAINTAINED.

Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received February 4, 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 4. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 11,841 bales were sold. There was very good general competition and prices were firm and quite up to last week's best rates. Greasy Merino sold to 26j|d.

SMALL PROFIT FOR THE YEAR

At the fifth annual meeting of the Fatea District Meat Company tho chairman, Mr. A T. Christensen, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, referred to the small profit made during tho past, year, £lB9, but congratulated shareholders on the fact that, despite adverse conditions, the company was enabled, through the goodwill of farmers of the district, to carry on. A regrettable shortage of funds during the year necessitated realisation of stock and wool a's it came to hand. The existing prosperity of the country , as a whole, augured well for the immediate success of the company's operations. The report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated February 2, from the High Commissioner for Now Zealand, London: — Tallow. —There was no auction this week owing to shortage of fresh material. The market is quiet and prices are unchanged. _ ' Hemp.—The Manila market is dull and easier owing to the absence of buying interest. Closing value of "J" grade for February-April shipment is £37. Sisal: The market is quiet but steady. No. 1 is held for £43 10s, but in the absence of buyers the probable value is £43. Mexican is firni with moderate business in special brush at £4O 10s and good white at £37. New Zealand: The market is quiet and the tendency is easier. Closing comparative values for January-March shipments are: Highpoints, £36; fair, £33 10s; common, £3l; second grade tow, £22 10s; and third grade, £lB 10s. Oats.—The market is very quiet. Fair supplies of English oats are still available and choice white feed is worth 30s to 31s, seed 32s to 345. Plato afloat is offered at 345, but no buyers. Value of Chilean for February-March and MarchApril shipments to Liverpool is 26s 6d. The nominal value of New Zealand " A " grade Cartons for February shipment is 30s 6d. Peas.—English maple meets with fajr inquiry, choice, seed making 54s to 55s and lower qualities down to 495. New Zealand March-April shipments of '\o. 1 arc offered at 645, but do not attract buyers as old crop is available on . the spot at these prices or less. Tasmanian February-March shipment is offered at 70s. Blues: Trading is quiet and is chiefly confined to Japanese and Dutch. No inquiry for New Zealand or Tasmanian. Danish Cocksfoot. —The' market is quiet. February-March shipment is quoted at 725. • Wool. —Bradford business in tops and 'yarns is very slow. Present quotations for tops are: 64's. warp, 3s lid j average, 3s lOd; medium and coarse crossbred is unchanged, hut prospective buyers would probably get a concession of £d. LONDON DAIRY VALUES. The London dairy produce market is quiet, with signs of an improving demand. Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London office, dated February 2. Butter: Finest, 184s; unsalted, 188s. Market still very quiet, but signs of an improving demand. Danish, 192s spot, stocks cleared. Deliveries of New Zealand, 1588 tons, stock 3583 tons. Retail prices unchanged. Cheese: Market and retail unchanged, white, 91s to 925; coloured, 94s to 955. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from London as at the closo of business last week. —Butter: 182s to 184s per cwt.; market slow.
