THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

TARANAKI OIL ACTIVE. . A feature of the business on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday was eight sales of Taranaki Oils at prices ranging from 5s 6d, the level of the last sale, to Bs. In other sections the week's business opened at average strength. There was a distinctly firmer demand at advanced prices for Government securities, and a few more were on the market. In local body* debentures there was a sale of Devonport Boroughs, 1937, per cent., at £93.

In banking the contributing issue of Nationals of Australasia sold again at £9 12s 6d. Other shares in the section showed little change. In insurance offers for Queenslands were advanced during the day from the week-end price, 64s 6d, to 665, no sellers.

In loan and agency, offers for both issues of Loan and Mercantiles were advanced, the ordinary from £122 to £124, and the preference from £BO to £Bl. In coal Hikurangis were offered sixpence cheaper, fivo shillings, no buyers. The preference issue dropped proportionately to 10s 6d, no buyers, and the A preference issue was on sale at Bs, again without buyors. In woollens Kaiapois firmed a penny to sell at 14s and offers for the contributing issue were advanced twopence to 4s, no sellers. Wellingtons also improved, selling at £7 ss, two shillings dearer than the last sale about a week ago. In the miscellaneous section Milne and Choyces, debenture stock, again sold at 26s 3d. New Zealand Farmers' Fertilisers eased threepence, selling at 20s 3d. Taranaki Oils had sales at 5s 9d and 5s 6d at the noon call and at 7s 9d, 7s 6d, 7s 3d, 6s, Bs, and 8s at the late call. The shares last sold locally in December at 5s 6d, but in February, 1928, touched 10s 9d, and in June, lis 6d. At tho close of the Exchange sellei'3 asked 7s 9d and buyers offered 7s 3d, compared with sellers 4s and buyers Is 9d on Saturday. Tonson Garlicks had a sale at 7s lid, compared with tho last local transaction at 12s, in July, 1928.

In mining Ohinemuris sold threepence cheaper at 8s 3d. More were inquired for at the price, sellers 8s 4d. Waihis had sale at 14s 6d, a penny cheaper. Mount Lyells were again firm, sellers asking 42s 9d, threepence more than on Saturday, buyers 42s 3d, threepence advance. Sellers of Kuala Kampars -were twopence dearer, 15s 6d, buyers threepence higher, 15s Id. Tho following sales took place: — Borough of Devonport, debentures, 1937, 4£ per cent, £93; National Bank of Australasia (contg.), £9 12s 6d; Kaiapoi Woollen, 14s; Wellington Woollen, £ 7 ss; Milne and Choyce debenture stock, 26s 3d; New Zealand Farmers' Fertiliser, 20s 3d; Taranaki Oilfields, 5s 9d, 5s 6d, 7s 9d, 7s 6d, 7s 3d, 6s.
