INCIDENT ON WATERFRONT.

MAN SUSTAINS BROKEN ANKLE

In a scuffle on the waterfront on Saturday evening, George Lee sustained a broken ankle and was admitted to tho Auckland Hospital. There was a srcjuel in the Police' Court yesterday, when, on a charge of causing Lee actual bodily harm, Reginald William Wooley, aged 25, motor mechanic, pleaded not. guilty. It was stated by the police that the assault was not a severe one; in fact, it was just a scuffle between the part ies.

Percy Roke, farmer, of Wha.ngaroa, who was with Wooley when the incident occurred, said blows were struck on two occasions in his presence, and each lime Lee started the scuffle. Thcro was not tho slightest provocation as far us he could sec.

The magistrate, Mr. W. R. MeKcan, said there seemed to be 110 intent on Wooley's part to do bodily injury. Accused was remanded to appear in three weeks, it. being stated Lee would probably be ablo to appear then. Bail was allowed.

Robert White Lanier, aged 20, negro mess-bov aboard the American steamer Golden State, was charged with causing actual bodily harm to John F. Murphy, boatswain. As a result, of an incident on tho steamer on Saturday afternoon. Murphy was admitted to tho Auckland Hospital with a chest wound. Accused was remanded for a week, bail being refused. A charge of failing to account for 16s, which ho received 011 terms requiring him to pay it to tho Colonial Mutual Life Insurance Company. was preferred against Reginald Matthew McEwen, aged 25. Accused was remanded for a week, bail being allowed. A plea of guilty was entered by Samuel .Tordon, aged 59, labourer, charged with having been found asleep in a. private yard in Epsom 011 Saturday night, lie was fiued £l.
