COMPLAINING OF COLD.

Looking very picturesque in their lava lavas of grey flannel, two Samoan passengers on the Government motor-ship Maui Pomaro attracted much attention on the arrival of the vessel at Lyttelton last week. The Samoans are Maiu'u, a teacher in the Government school at Apia, and Malele, a boy who has just passed his proficiency examination at the school. They are the guests of the Government on a sight-seeing and educational tour on the round trip by tho vessel. At Wellington they will disembark and will travel by train to Auckland, stopping at places of interest en route, and rejoining the ship at Auckland.

They were full of wonder on their arrival at Lyttelton, but complained of the cold of tho New Zealand "summer." They were fasqinated at the sight of the shipping in port and the trains. They watched the electric cranes at work, and Maiu'u remarked, "Here you use all machine power; in Samoa we use all manpower."

Maiu'u expressed his intention of taking liis protege to Christchurch the following clay to see the city, and incidentally to experience their first ride on a railway. On his return to Samoa the boy Malele'is to be appointed to a position in the Public Service.
