MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD.

TOUR OF NORTH AUCKLAND. PARTY LEAVES THIS MORNING. HENDERSON-KUMEU ROAD. Tho Main Highways Board will commence a tour of North Auckland this morning. The party consists of Mr. AE Jull, acting-chairman, Messrs. J. Wood, C. J. Talbot, M. H. Wynyard, and J. J. Gibson, members, Mr. W. A. Sutherland, secretary, and Mr. J Mc» Ennis, district engineer This morning the board will receive deputations from the Now Lynn, Glen Eden, and Henderson Town Boards, and the Titirangi and Swanson-Ranui Ratepayers' Associations. In the afternoon the Helensville Town Board and the Rodney County Council will be met. To-morrow the board will leave Warkworth, and will visit Dargaville. The party will be at Kaikohe on Wednesday and at Kaitaia on tho following day. Friday and Saturday will be spent in Ohaewai and Whangarei respectively, and the return to Auckland, via the East Coast Road, will be made on Sunday.

The board is paying particular attention to the highway from Henderson to Kumeu .and to the East Coast Road. In tho case of the former road the Waitemata County Council has been offered a subsidy of £3 for £1 for the provision of a permanent surface, and loan proposals will shortly be submitted. The ratepayers in the two ridings concerned are alive to tho necessity for early reformation.

The board has allocated £50,000 for expenditure 011 the East Coast highway this year, and at the end of the season there should be a metal link with Waiwera. Formation between YVaiwera and Topuni is proceeding vigorously, and the board has about 600 men engaged ofn this highway. Next Monday the board will receive deputations in Auckland, and on Tuesday the South Auckland trip will commence.
