DEADLOCK IN AUSTBALIA!*

SATURDAY LABOUR REFUSED*

VOLUNTEERS RESPOND TO CALL.

The timber workers are now on strike in all Australian States. The men should have presented themselves for fout. and a-half hours' work at the various mills yesterday morning, but none did so* Therefore all were automatically dismissed. Members of the union in Sydney held what they termed a social gathering at the Trades Hall. Many speeches were delivered behind closed doors. Mr. Justice Lukin of the Arbitration Court made an. order yesterday in Melbourne to the effect that astate o£ strike existed. The order excluded the bush mills.

The employers generally are standing solidly together. At Adelaide the timber merchants Lave called for applications from men. who desire to work 48 hours ai week. They have met with an excellent response.
