HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—Unsettled weather, is indicated, with heavy showers, particularly in western and southern districts, but fair intervals will intervene. Thunder is expected in places near the West Coast, accompanied by hail at times. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, and occasionally squally. Rbugh seas on the southern Tasman Sea and along the West Coast, mainly moderate elsewhere. Cool to cold temperatures. The intense disturbance is now centred in tho South Island and boisterous weather is likely, especially in the south. Barometric pressure is very low southwestward of the Dominion. Barometer, midnight, rising . . 29.80 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 29.75 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A depression crossed the dominion last night, but a secondary depression, having developed to westward winds remained between north-west and west. An anticyclope is moving on to the western Tasman. Indications are for strong winds between west and north, reaching gale force at places, later backing to southerlies. Rather rough to rough and increasing seas in New Zealand waters generally. Strong south-westerly winds to gales and rough seas in tho eastern Tasman.
