CONCRETE HIGHWAYS.
BIRKENHEAD PROPOSALS. Subject to the approval of the Main Highways Board, ibe Birkenhead Borough Council last evening authorised tho con struction in concrete of five chains of Oncwa Road, from the Wailemata County boundary, at n cost of £554 10s, as compared with £265 ]os if done in bitumen, as already agreed to. The subsidy in each case would be on a pound for pound basis, being £277 5s and £132 15s lespectivcly. * Tho engineer intimated that approval had been given by tho Main Highways Boa I'd of a subsidy of £2 for £1 for the council's maintenance proposals. tor IlaurAki Street, and Glenfield Road the estimated cost of the proposed work was £lOll, and (lie subsidy granted £674; and for Oncwa Road £172, the subsidy being £ll4 13s 4d. The material was now being assembled for an immediate start.
