MOTORISTS IN COURT. FIRST BATCH OF THE YEAR. OWNERSHIP OF CARS.

Over 100 charges of breaches of the city by-laws and the motor-vehicle regulations were heard in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., and Mr, W. R. McKean, S.M. This was the first batch of offending motorists to bo dealt with this year.

Failure to notify change of ownership of vehicles resulted in several charges. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said the motorist and the dealer who were involved in the "trading-in" of a car had the idea that this could be done without change of ownership being notified. Dealers seemed convinced that a "trade-in" did not make the car their property and they transferred direct from the original owner to the new one. Seabrook and Fowlds were fined 10s; Lyon Bros, and William White, 20s each; and B. Coban, B. M. Morley, A. L. Steadman and George Stewart, 10s each.

More was heard of tho "midnight trap" laid on the Great North Road for cabaret patrons. E. H. Hosking, Jack Lewis and A. W. Scatting, who exceoded the speed limit over the checked distance, were each fined £2. On a similar charge of speeding H. H. Evans was fined 10s. A "trap" set in Manukau Road by a City Council official resulted in M. Findlay and F. Aicken being fined £2 and V. R. A. Hattaway £l. Fines of £2 were imposed on C. E. Downing and F. G. Gresham, who exceeded the limit in Remuera Road.

A motor-cyclist, L. P. Cole, who struck two persons in Queen Street, was fined 30s for negligent driving. Lighting and Parking.

Lighting defects were responsible for fines of 10s being imposed on the following:—J. Astrella, H. Clarke, H. C. Col-more-Williams, Maud Clark, 11. J. Cantell, F. Ripley, L. McNamara, W. N. Wilson, V. R. A. Hattaway, T. Addison, M. Honlihan, W. A. Hawkins, J. Innes, D. McCall, G. B. Morgan, A. J. Smythe, G. Tallentive, G. A. Wells and H. A. C. Yocknev.

The following motorists who parked in forbidden areas were fined 10 each: C. H. Camplin, R. A. Cleland, W. J. Duffin, W. H. Dwyer, F. R. Marryatt, B. G. McGinn, A. W. Read, C. Taylor, W. A. Heap, R. P. Nesbit, H. A. Ross, M. Stewart, D. D. Vickerman and M. Walsh. An error in parking cost R. C. Jones 10s. For leaving cars unattended J. Hardley, K. S. Ewing, W. F. Handley, A. I. 'Paterson, M. Lichenstein, V. R. Thomas, R. W. Scelly, S. Jo wet t, J. Carruth,* H. T. Stevens, b. C. V. J. Finch, L. E. Williamson, R. Bell and C. Blomfield were each fined 10s. Eight motorists who failed to obey traffic officers were fined as follows-:—A. Money, R. Jaffe, R. McDermott, £1; O. A. Jackson, G. C. Andrews, J. Bull, jun., F. O. Franklin, and R. J. Neiper, 10s. For proceeding before tho signal was given W. Y. Cross, F. Brinkler, B. Bunn and V. H. C. Pearson were each fined £l. Fines of 10s were imposed on W. McShane and C. J. Smith for stopping on Grafton Bridge, and G. Jesseu and G. W. Gustafson for passing another vehicle on the bridge. For stopping in a zone area W. A. Chenery was fined £l, and B. H. Morrison and Roy Marr 10s each. M. W. Karew was fined £1 for causing an obstruction. Wide Range oi Offences. Motorists turning to the right when this was prohibited were fined as follows: D. A. Taylor, £1; W. E. L. Napier, H. C. Parry, G. Merler, L. Kissin, W. Cameron and R. A. Meara, 10s of 10s were imposed on H. A. Chambers and D. Lindsay for having unsealed meters on taxi-cabs. fine of 30s was imposed on Dorothy Radley for passing a stationary tratnFor having no endorsed, certificate and licence E. H. Morgan, H. J. Rowc, 10s, for a breach of tho driving rule in a one-way street; A. Brooking, 10s, for riding a cycle on tho footpath; John Urquhart and Sons, 10s, for fixing tho wrong number-plato to a car; Winifred Lee, 10s, for failing to.give to a vehicle on the right; and W. J. McShane, 10s, for sounding the horn of his vehicle unnecessarily.
