POPE'S JUBILEE YEAR.
"" GRANT OF INDULGENCE. CONDITIONS LAID DOWN. (Received January 12. 12.25 a.m.) Times Cable. LONDON, Jan. 11. ' The Rome correspondent of the Times Havs Pope Pius announces that the year ' 1929, which marks the jubilee of his first "Mass, shall be considered a, holy year -;cnth " extra ordinem." " He accordingly grants during the year ' jB, plenary indulgence on four conditions. First, tho faithful dwelling in the Diocese of Rome and pilgrims to the city must twice visit three named basilicas, in order to pray particularly for the conversion of sinners and the extirpation of heresy and schism, the peace and con- , Jcord of princes, and the prosperity and .freedom of the Roman Catholic Church ~ hud its head. If persons are prevented ..by distance or other legitimate reason from complying, their confessors may commute them for visits to their parish . phurch. ..Secondly, additional fasts must be observed. Thirdly, they must make additional confessions, and partake of extra jpommunions. Fourthly, they must make charitable - (offerings according to their means, and according to their confessor's advice, such offerings to be made for important work—for example, the propagation and preservation of the faith. The iubileo indulgence may be earned . several times, but additional indulgences must be for tho benefit of souls in purgatory. The l'ope says he believes the faithful should hasten to avail them- *, felves of this precious spiritual opportunjty for morals, faith and Christian piety.
