WILKINS TO RETURN.
MACHINES TO BE STORED.BETTER BASE NECESSARY. Australian Press Association—United Service. LONDON. Jan. 10.. Sir Hubert Wilkins in a wireless message states: Our present exploration trip is ended. To-morrow we will seek a place to store the machines and equipment and investigate the possibility of a speedy leturn to civilisation. This decision was reached after another flight when we travelled 250 miles ovei. the country recently traversed, seeking a more southern base accessible by boat, and where more favourable conditions would be likely. The surface appeared to be almost solid enough to land upon, yet we knew that if tho engines failed the plane would hurtle through the billowy masses to jagged peaks below. On account of our restricted load we were compelled to return home. We determined to postpone further efforts until next season, when we hope to establish a base on tho contiuenfc itself and start thence to fly along the unexplored coast of 1800 miles o£ the Ross Sea Barrier.
