MAYORALTY OF CITY.
PREPARING FOR ELECTION. SIR J. GUNSON NOT STANDING. Announcements that Sir James Gunson has declined a request that he should offer his services for the Mayoralty of Auckland and that a deputation will wait on Mr. E. IL Potter asking him to come forward are definite developments in connection with the municipal elections nest May, Sir James Gunson was Mayor of the city from 1915 to 1925, when he was succeeded by Mr. G. Baildon, the present occupant of tho oflice. Following a long holiday from business and civic life Sir James Gunson has re-entered tho commercial world as governing director of Messrs. Robertson Bros. Mr. Potter is Mayor of Mount Eden and a member of tho Auckland Hospital Board, tho Transport Board and the Auckland Electric-Power Board. It is expected that tho deputation will wait on him within 'the next fortnight. The only caiulidato who has so far announced his intention to stand for the city Mayoralty is Mr. W. H. Murray, a member of the City Council. Others who are mentioned as possible candidates; but who have not yet announced their intentions are Mr. Baildon, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Transport Board and a member of the City Council. Mr. G- Hutchison, secretary of the Auckland Automobile Association and president of tho Auckland Rotary Club, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland Electric-Power Board, Mr. H. E. Vaile, chairman of the Auckland Institute and Museum, and Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board.
