NEW LYNN BOARDING HOUSE.

SOME OF FURNITURE SAVED

An eight-roomed boarding house in Tot am Avenue, New Lynn, occupied by Mr. E. I. Morphy and owned by Mr. W. Parker, was almost completely destroyed by fire early yesterday morning.

The alarm was given to tlio Avondale Fire Brigade at 2.19, but when it arrived the building was a mass of (lames, and it was impossible to do more than save one room. The 12 boarders, who were aroused before the fire had reached any great proportions were able to savo a piano, together with much of the furniture and contents. The liuiise was insured for £6OO in the New Zealand Insurance Company and the contents for £230 in the Guardian Assurance Company. REMUERA HOUSE SUFFERS. OCCUPANTS PLAYING CARDS. Considerable damago to tho residence of Mr. A. F. Moginie, of 20, Lucerne Road, Kemuera, resulted from a fire which broke out shortly before 11 o'clock last i evening. The house, a six-roomed wooden one, was well alight when reached by the Remuera Fire Brigade, and quick work was necessary to prevent total destruction. Air. and Mrs Moginie, with two lady visik>rs, were playing cards in a front room of the house when the fire started in a wash-house at the back. The first sounds made bv the oncoming flames passed without particular notice, and it was not until tho crackling became insistent that Mr Moginie rose from the card table to investigate. Tho rear portion of tho house was then a mass of flames. Mrs. Moginie was unable to ring tho fire brigade, the telephone wiring having been affected, but a call was sent from a neighbouring house. Meanwhile tho occupants gathered together personal belongings and quitted the house, which was fast filling with smoke. Ihe brigade had tho fire under control in quick time, effecting a good save. The wash-house, kitchen and a short passage were gutted, damage by smoke and water being done to threo other rooms.
