Miss M. B. Carstairs, Britain's foremost girl motor-boat racer, has definitely decided to attempt in a motor-boat this year to beat tho time of the fastest water passage of the Atlantic., Her attempt was to be made some time in October. She is credited with tho ambition to do tho complete trip of 2835 miles in three and a-half days.

The social club of the North Shore Transport Employees held its first flannel dance at the Takapuna Boating Clubhouse at Bayswater last evening. There was a large number of dancers present and excellent music was supplied by A. Thompson's new transport band. A committee of men was responsible for the arrangments and an enjoyable evening was spent.

Mrs. Wallis, who is visiting New Zealand, was the guest of honour at the University Women's Club in Wellington. The guest, who is staying at Bishopscourt, was accompanied by Mrs. Sprott. Many university friends were pleased to avail themselves of the opportunity of meeting Mrs. Wallis again, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent.

Last week Iler Excellency Ladv Alice Fergusson, accompanied by Miss Dugdale, paid a visit to the Borstal Institute in Wellington. The dining room at Fergusson House was arranged for an entertainment. This was organised and given bv the girls themselves, who showed much talent in action and song. Later tea was served in the Wakefield House dining-room. Her Excellency talked with the girls afterwards in the courtyard, where they had their tea. and showed a personal interest in each.

Mrs. Brookes recently returned to Australia from Europe with her daughters, and on the way home she revisited Egypt to obtain another glimpse of the setting of her story, "Broken Idols." Mrs. Brookes is president of the Queen Victoria Hospital Committee in Melbourne, and in England she studied many phases of hospital administration. Among others she inspected the famous Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital, the equivalent of the Queen Victoria in Melbourne.
