WAGES AWARD UPHELD.
EMPLOYERS TO APPEAL
United Service, BKItLIN. Nov. 55. The Provincial Labour Court at Duisburg tias reversed its decision to tho effect that the steclworkcrs' award was not binding. The employers now intend to appeal to the Supremo Labour Court. In consequence of this decision the Ruhr steelworks arc not expected to be reopened this year. In spite of (he Central Government's grant of £1.000,000 to relieve distress in the district Iho. position there is most, serious.
Tho municipal authorities at Dusseldorf are paying relief money to a quarter of the inhabitants. Stoppage:? in other industries in consequence of the steel lockout are increasing.
The award in dispute in the Ruhr granted slight increases in wages to the steel workers. It was declared to be binding bv the Minister of Labour, but an opposite decision was given by the Provincial Labour Court after the employers had decided upon a lock-out which affected 250.000 employees. This decision of the Court having been reversed the employers are faced with the payment of higher wages, which they have already stated cannot be borne by the industry.
