FALL FROM CLIFFS.
MINISTER'S SON KILLED.
FATALITY AT SUMNER. " SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE." [BV TELEGRAPH. —PItKSS ASSOCIATION. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Tho body of Cyril Campbell Armour, aged 13 years, second son of Rev. T. W. Armour, of Christchurch, was found at tho foot of the cliffs at Sumner yesterday. The hoy went to Sumner on Saturday with his mother and other members of the family, and he Avas last seen alivo at 4 p.m. Search parties were out all day yesterday, but no trace was found of tho boy until toward tho evening, when fishermen reported that they had seen an object among tho boulders at Whitewash Head. A boat was sent out, and tho body was discovered. One leg was broken at the thigh.
.An inquest was held to-day. Uio boy's brother said deceased sometimes took foolhardy risks, and that since a recent operation lie had been subject to giddiness. Otherwise ho was normal and in very good health. Tn returning a verdict that the boy's death was caused by a fall from the cliffs on to the beach, the coroner said: "It ser>ms that in a spirit of adventure he essayed a task in itself exceedingly dangerous, that of climbing on the cliffs. We can only surmise that he fell from the cliffs to (ho beach below and sustained injuries from which he could not hope to live."
The news of Cyril Armour's death was announced to the Presbyterian General Assembly, sitting in Auckland, yesterday by Rev. Dr. Erwin, of Christchurck A resolution of deep sympathy was adopted, members standing in iiilence.
