FUNDS FOR SPORTS BODIES.
SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL HELD
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TUAKAU. Monday. A queen carnival in aid of the funds of sports bodies at Tuakau has yielded a sum of between £SOO and £6OO. The final returns have yet to be completed. Onethird of tho money goes to the Tuakau Recreation Club for reduction of the balances of purchase money on the recreation ground, one-third to the Tuakau Bowling Club for improvements to the bowling greens, and one-third to the Tuakau Central Tennis Club for laying down new tennis courts. The successful queen was Miss Rona Dceble, who represented the bowlers. Miss Gladys Strahan, tho tennis queen, was next, and Miss Alice Maiden, tho recreation queen, third. The crowning ceremony, which took place in the Tuakau Town Hall, proved a brilliant pageant.. The attendance was large, being estimated at over 400 persons. Tho ceremony was conducted by Mr. {Jcoble Cornish, of Auckland.
The erection of the overhead bridge for livestock at the Tuakau railway yards is well in hand. The concrete abutments have been placed and other structural work is proceeding.
