THE TAMAKI CLUB.

FIRST SERIES OF RACES

The Tarmiki Yacht Club held its first series o£ harbour races for small craft off Kohimarania on Saturday afternoon. The first race was timed to start at 2.10 p.m.. but ut that hour there was almost a (aim, and the majority of tho bouts wero unable to leach the starting-line. A light northerly breeze afterwards set in, and, as there was every indication of the wind coming out from the south, the officials wisely decided to delay the start of the first raco until 3.25 p.m., by which time most of the boats had managed to put in an appearance. Owing to the delay only one round of the course waa sailed, tho handicaps being halved. The launch Caprice, owned by Mr. .T. W. Andrew, acted as flagship, and was anchored oft Kohiniiirama Wharf. Mr. W. A. Wilkinson was starter and judge, and Captain If. C. Barnes timekeeper. Details are as follows THE IS FT. PA TIKIS. Tho race for the 18ft. M class patikis was started al 3.25 p.m.. the compelitora being: Mawhiti, Manege, Maratea. and Matarere. On tho fall of the last flag Matarere crossed the lino first, closely followed by «Maraten, Mawhiti, and Maneno in that order. It waa a close haul to the Bastion mark, and on getting round spinnakers were carried as far as Beacon Kock Lighthouse. Ma none gradually improved her position, and on run was leading the fleet. Passing the lighthouse the order was Manene, Matarere, Mawhiti, Maratea. The boats were able to lay tho next mark off St. Heliers Wharf, and shortly after tho lighthouse had been cleared Matarere passed Manene, and maintained her position for the remainder of the course. Manene, Mawhiti and Maratea following in that, order, all close up. The finishing times wereMatarere, 4 h Sni 355; Manene, 4h 8m 51s; Mawhiti, lh '.tin 275; Maratea, 4h 9m 375. Result: Matarere, 1; Manene, '2; Mawhiti, :i. The three star class boats, Ola IV., Moa and Juno were sent away in the order stated at 3.30 p.m., and Ola. IV. had no difficulty in maintaining her lead throughout (ho race. The finishing times were:— Ola IV r .. 'lh Mm 525. 1; Aloa, -111 IGni I'Ja, '2; June, db 18m '2.ls, 3. THE M-EOOTERS. The lift, classes were started together nt 3.35 p.m., Opah crossing the lino first, closely followed by Kismet, Valencia, Jupiter, Val, Mario and Tui. Kismet passed v 1 pa h on the lead up the harbour, but Opah legained her position shortly afterwards, and was never iieaded. Passing the lighthouse the order waa Opah, Kismet, Val, Marie, Jupiter, Valencia and Tui. On tho close haul from St.. Heliers Wharf Kismet and Val overlaid tho finishing mark, both skippers being unaware that the courso had been shortened. The finishing times were:— Y ('lass.— Opnh, 111 2r»n 355: Jupiter, 4h 28111: Valencia. 11l 2'.)m 525. Result: Opah, 1: Jupiter, 2; Valencia, !l. T and X Classes.—Kismet, 111 27m 31s; Val, 'III 27m '10s; Mn:«n, lh 27tn 525; Tui, 4h :i(lin 'l. r ;s. Result: Mario, 1; Kismet. 2; Val. 3. Dronj and Scud were (he only starters in the race for class V and they wero sent away at 3.10 p.m., Drono leading from start to finish. The limes were: Drono, 'lll 28m ■10s: Scud, 4h 33m 355. Tho. Takapuna one-design class produced Delphine, Huzette, Lai Lai and Ace. Tho floats crossed the linn in tho order named, and a very close finish was fought out between Delphine. Aco and Sir/.ette. _ Tho finishing times wero:—Delphine, 4h <IOm Jss; Ace, 4li -lOni 21s; Silzetle, 111 •10m 50s; Lai Lai, 411 50m 21s. Result: Delphine, I; Ace, 2: Suzelte, 3. In the race for out boards Miss Arnwa and Miss Tanniki wero the only nctiial speedsters lo put in an app'-aritnce. but Miss Hlanley, of iho family type, agreed also to nlnrt to make up a race, and the Ihreo boats were sent away over a course of two miles. Miss Arawa got the best of the start, ond was soon (i long w;jy in the lead. On tho run up from St. Ileliors she stopped for a few seconds, but got going again and won easily.
