AUCKLAND-ROTORUA TRAINS.

Sir,—Your timely leader of to-day makes one wonder if the continued apathy of the Railway Department is not deliberate; whether they refuse to amend their ways because of your repeated insistence on this necessary reform. Otherwise, why is the railway connection from Rotorua to Auckland so strikingly superior ? One leuves Rotorua at 5 p.m. and arrives in Auckland at 11 p.m. If the department refuse this daily service from Auckland to Rotorua at least let (hem change the present 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. train on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to a real express, leaving Auckland at 5 p.m. and arriving at Rotorua at 11 p.m., stopping only at Frankton, Morrinsville, Matamata, Putarurn and Mamaku. Who would object ? Not the Aucldand-to-Hamilton passengers, as they are well catered for. Not the Hamilton-to-Rotorua passengers, as the 7.20 am. caters for them. Possibly a stray squeal from Waharoa or Kiwifahi, but in the interests of travellers of all classes—tourist, commercial, business and pleasure—this reform cries to the high heavens its urgency. If Mr. Sterling would leave his specially-appointed managerial train-de-luxe and travel occasionally in his express (!) from ten-thirty fo five-thirty, over 160 miles, he would learn what travellers think. Then possibly instead of the lectures and propagp.nda f we might have action. Disgusted.
