yERY SATISFACTORY PRICES
A FULL BENCH OF BUYERS.
[BY LEI.EdH.U'It. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "WANGANUI, Friday.
The. first, Wanganui wool sale of the geason was held to-day, when an offering of just under 10,000 bales was submitted to a fidl bench of buyers representing all sections of the wool trade. Prices wrro very satisfactory to the producers, showing an advance of about £d to jjd on the coarser typo of crossbred wool compared with tlio opening Wanganui sale last season. For finer grades of crossbred prices were on a parity with those of last November, while pieces • and bellies, which were in good demand, brought prices from par to J,d lower. Prices generally wero up to those at the first sale of the present season at Wellington, and anything showing fino quality was eagerly sought. Compared -with tho rocent Wellington sale tho wool offered was of a heavier condition and on the wholo not so attractive. In view of theso factors tho sale may be viewed us a satisfactory one. Quotations from other centres wlicro the wools show superiority in regard to skirting, lightness of condition and spinning are apt to mislead growers. The indications are, however, that tho quality of tho wool produced in the Wanganui district is
rapidly improving. A factor which in many cases militates against a higher price being obtained is the lack of care in regard to classing and skirting. A number of bales were spoiled through lack of attention in this respect. The official ran go of prices is as follows. with tho prices ruling at the sale in March of this year, tho last sale of last season, al.so being given:— March. November.
