CRITICISM OF MORALS. INDIGNATION AT SALFORD. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, Nov. 21. Jhe secretary of the Manchester Dockers' Union had the greatest difficulty in preventing 1200 members of tho organisation from ceasing work and marching to the Town. Hall, as a protest against a statement made by the Mayor of Salford at a dinner, that the dockers "took up with lasses, lived in a single room, and produced, a population which was a menace to the town, aind left them chargeable on tho rates." The secretary said it was a malicious attack on the morals of the dockers and their wives. He felt like handing him over to the women. The Mayor privately received a deputation of protesting dockers, but refused to apologise, saying ho had not meant to refer to all the dockers.
