YOUNG MEN'S LONG WALK.
TRAMP THROUGH CONTINENT. THE FIRST THOUSAND MILES. [FHOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] JOHANNESBUKG, Oct. 12. Lieutenant Cooko and Mr. Monson, two young Australians, who are endeavouring to walk from Capetown to Cairo, hav« completed the first 1000 miles in 35 days. Mr. Cooko claims this to be a record, his own best previous being 1000 miles in 33 dayti, performed in Australia in 1923. Tho 1000-mile walk record was previously held by an American named Sullivan, who had accomplished the journey in 39 days 4 hours. The two walkers hope to accomplish the journey to Cairo in eight months and three days, arriving there on April 11, 1929.
