NEW ZEALAND AND SAMOA.
THE LIQUOR TRAFFIC. PRAISE FOR THE DOMINION. [FROM OCR OWN-CORRESPONDENT.] LONDON, Oct. 11. The United Committee for tho Protection of Nativo Itaccs from tho Liquor Traffic has forwarded tho following resolution to the High Commissioner for New Zealand: — " The United Committee for tho Protection of tho Native Races from the Liquor Traffic, in council assembled at Westminster, July 19, 1928, desires to express its great appreciation of the spirit in which New Zealand has undertaken her reponsiblo duties in Western Samoa, and in particular that connected with the prohibition of tho liquor traffic as provided for in Article 22 of tho Covenant.
" Experience has proved that if the natives in the various territories are to be protected from tho evils of tho liquor traffic it can only be satisfactorily carried out whero the prohibition of such is made to apply to all sections of the population in those territories."
The committeo note with great satisfaction the statement that " tho policy of absolute prohibition for Western Samoa was the unanimous decison of tho National Government of New Zealand in 1919, and tho present Government have no intention of altering tho existing law, which is essential in the interests of the Samoan people."
Tho committco says it believes that tho furtherance of such a policy has added to tho prestigo of New Zealand, and has dono much to demonstrate tho truo solution of this problem for native territories generally.
