CIVIC INTERESTS.
PUBLIC MEETING HELD.
Tho Town Hall concert chamber was ulmost full last evening when questions of civic interest were dealt with by Mr. H. I'. Taylor and Mr. A. Hall Skelton. Dr. W. If. Hortori presided. After Mr. Taylor had spoken at length on numerous city works Mr. Skelton devoted much time to reviewing tho history of Auckland. Ho then attacked the Rev. Lionel It. Fletcher in strong terms for a recent statement at Wharigarei that "hippocket flasks" were causing ruin among young people. Ho characterised the statement as outrageous. He also accused Mr. Fletcher of using his pulpit for political purposes. At tho conclusion of (ho meeting a resolution was passed that, the City Council should be asked to lift tho injunction restraining Dixieland, Ltd., from building baths under tho cliff at J'oint Chevalier, in view of the fact that. Auckland swimmers favoured this locality.
