LACK OF ACCOMMODATION.
AUCKLAND BOYS' GRAMMAR. ANOTHER SCHOOL SUGGESTED. The urgent need uf relief from overcrowding ut the .Auckland Grammar School was emphasised at a meeting of thft School Board yesterday, when a letter was received from the headmaster asking for the provision of extra science classrooms. The chairman, Professor A. 1\ «. Thomas, said the school was really capable of holding only about 750 pupils, but at present it accommodated 950 pupilsFurther accommodation was badly needed but the school was a very compact block and it was difficult to see where extra rooms could be added. The obvious solution of the difficulty was the building of a newsecondary school in the eastern suburbs. A new school at Ellerslie would take between 200 and 300 pupils away. The board had repeatedly urged the provision of a new school, but the Education Dopar- 1 " incnt had token no action. Mr. A. Burns: Let us press for the new school. • M "We have done that again and again, replied the chairman. . It was decided to bring the neaumaster's application before the dep.u .■ merit, and to point out that the P rc * en _ school was overcrowded, necessitating either the provision of a new school the building of additions.
