AWARDS IN COMPETITIONS. DOMINION CHEESE LEADS. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON. Oct. 23, At the Dairy Show the Dominion competitions resulted as follows: —Butter, salted, 75 entries: Candclo, New South Wales, 96 points, 1; Comboyno and Gloucester, New South Wales, each 95, 2; South Australian Farme»s, Narracnorto, and Gayndah, Queensland, each 94. 3. Unsalted Butter.—6l entriesj Oakey, Queensland. 96 points, 1; South Wolumla, Now South Wales, 05!,, 2 and reserve; Maryborough, Queensland, 94A, 2; Downs, Dalliv, Queensland, and Shannon, New Zealand, each 94, .3; very highly commended, Northern Central, New South Wales, 93A. Cheese.—New Zealand won all the prizes. -Edendale, 1; Cardiff, 2; Fairfax, 3. South Africa took all the awards for eggs and bacon. The Australian Trade Publicity Department had a large and excellent display, comprising butter, cheese, eggs, bacon, and honey, and photographs of dairy farms and pastoral scenes, which attracted much attention. -The department sold attractive 2d samples of butter and 3d jars of honey. The judges of the Dominion butter speak most highly of tho general quality of the exhibits. The judge of tho unsalted class, who is a buyer for one of the largest blending firms, said he would willingly have purchased all but six of tho exhibits, if they had been offered to him at Tooley Street. The day's sales totalled 12,240 bales. ROMA OIL CORPORATION. OPERATIONS BEING RESUMED. A recent message from Roma states that operations on tho Roma Oil Corporation's field in Queensland would recommence on October 15. The chief mining engineer of the Minos Department has visited Roma in connection with the cementing of the water as proscribed by the Petroleum Act. Tests have been successful, and the water has been shut off, the bore being ready for recommencement of operations. Within | three of four weeks the drillers expect to bo within (ho petroliferous gas belt. The present depth of the well is 3382 ft. THE AUSTRALIAN STRIKE. DECLINE IN EXPORTS. A table of exports from Now South Wales during September shows the effect of the strike. Compared with September of last, year tho exports at £3.704,543 are £1.975,000 lower. The greatest fall is in wool. The sales were postponed for two weeks, and the fall in wool alone is •' vn.OOO.
