Expect very boisterous, wintry weather, accompanied by much colder temperatures. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An intense depression was enveloping New Zealand to-day. A moderate anticyclone is situated over Eastern Australia. Indications are for strong northerly winds of gale force at many places, backing to southerlics shortly. Seas becoming heavy on tho west coast and south of Castlepoint, elsewhero rough in New Zealand waters. Strong northerly winds to gales, backing to southerlics soon in tho eastern lasuian, with generally rough to heavy seas. Weather cloudy, unsettled and boisterous with general rain and many heavy falls, thunder probable at places, and some snow on the highlands iu the South Island.
