ALLEGATION OF PERJURY.
COMMENT BY MAGISTRATE. COURT IMPOUNDS DOCUMENTS. [UY TKI.ECUAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] DANNEVIRKE. Wednesday. There was an unusual development in a case in the Magistrate's Court to-day, in which James Joseph Anderson, huildc.r, Dannevirke proceeded against James Humphreys, builder, Danuevirke, for £62 17s, being the amount alleged 'o be due in connectio i with a building contiact. Defendant in his evidence alleged that he had made two payments to Anderson of £SO each, and had obtained receipts for them. A witness was called, who said Illimphrevs had asked him to give evidence on his behalf against Anderson, ami to say that he had seen Humphreys hand over £SO to Anderson. Witness said lie had told ITumphre.vs t was absolute perjury, arid that he was not going to r sk getting six months in prison. He had never been a witness ol such a transaction. The magistrate said ho disbelieved defendant's evidence. He was most unreliable and his evidence most unsavoury. Defendant had committed perjury. The magistrate made an order that all the. documents in the case be impounded, pending further inquiry. Judgment on the clain: was given for the plaintiff for CGO
