THE ELLERSLIE INCIDENT.

Sir,—The incident at Ellerslie was undoubtedly a discreditable affair, but it was not a "perfect hell." If Dr. North hnd been in the Somnic battles of 1916 or in the Ypres sector in October, 1917, and had seen the unholy ruin of creatures that once were men lying about in the mud, and a not unreasonable prospect of being in the same condition himself at any moment, lie would have developed ti better appreciation of hell, and his language would lie more moderate. Dr. North's intentions arc good, but he sometimes fails in a sense of proportion, and his enthusiasm generates more heat than light. llahold M. Davis.
