SWIMMING.
THE AUCKLAND CENTRE. COUNTRY SCHOOL'S ENTHUSIASM The Auckland Swimming Centre met last evening, tho chairman. Mr. J. Enwrieht, presiding. " I cannot recollect a parallel case of enthusiasm shown by a country school," said the chairman, when tho educational officer, Mr. L. Brighton, reported that the headmaster of the Parawera native school had forwarded five shillings, collected by tho school children, as a donation toward the educational fund. The money was forwarded as a mark of appreciation for the receipt of swimming certificates. Mr. Brighton said he had written to the headmaster expressing the centre's appreciation of the donation. However, he had returned the money, as tho certificates were issued free. He expressed tho centre's desire that the money should be used as a trophy for such a competition as life-saving. A request by the Sports' Protection League for a donation was refused.
