DRAINING ST. JOHN'S LAKE.

Sir,--. Miss Huston's letter is reassuring to those who feared that this beautiful lake was to be destroyed, but is she unaware of the fact that the lake is to be reduced in area to 25 acres? It has been stated that the lake will be emptied, a portion deepened, the spoil from which will be spread over the low-lying adjacent land, and tlien refilled. The present area of the lake is 55 acres, according to a plan I have seen at the council offices, so that the scheme, if carried out, will reduce the size of Ihe lake to less than half. This, I think, would be a great pity. R. E. Fenton.
